This Is What Being ‘Tough on Terror’ Looks Like In East Jerusalem

In Jabal Mukaber, East Jerusalem, Israeli authorities demolished the home of Ghassan Abu Jamal—killed after a 2014 attack—punishing his family despite no involvement in the crime. The demolition, which also damaged neighboring homes, and the revocation of residency for his wife and children, are part of what Amnesty International calls illegal collective punishment. Such actions, including the cement “sealing” of other attackers’ rooms, violate international law and may amount to war crimes.
