The Occupation and Annexation of Jerusalem through Israeli Bills and Laws
The 1947 UN Partition Resolution (181) proposed granting Jerusalem international status, but it was rejected by Palestinians and Arab States. Following the 1948 Nakba, Israel declared statehood, extending sovereignty into West Jerusalem, while East Jerusalem was annexed by Jordan. After occupying East Jerusalem in 1967, Israel unilaterally annexed it and applied domestic laws to consolidate control. Israeli policies, including land acquisition, legal segregation, and demographic manipulation, aim to alter Jerusalem’s status and maintain a Jewish majority. These actions violate international law and deny Palestinians basic rights, including self-determination and freedom of movement.
