Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan: Ongoing Nakba and Israeli Dispossession of Palestinians
On 21 May 2021, a ceasefire ended Israel’s 11-day military offensive on Gaza, which killed at least 248 Palestinians, including 66 children, and displaced 72,000. However, Israel's regime of racial oppression and dispossession over Palestinians continued. Discriminatory laws, such as those affecting Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah and Batn Al-Hawa in East Jerusalem, threaten forcible evictions. Israel’s 1967 annexation of East Jerusalem and laws like the 1970 Legal and Administrative Matters Law enable such dispossession. Despite international condemnation, Israel continues its settler-colonial policies, violating international law and committing acts of forced transfer and war crimes. The international community is urged to intervene.
