Jerusalem Hotel: A Journey into History, Heritage, and Arabic Poetry Just Steps from Damascus Gate

The Jerusalem Hotel, located near Damascus Gate in East Jerusalem, is a historic Ottoman-era building transformed into a boutique hotel by the Saadeh family. Originally a palace built in 1890, the hotel preserves its rich heritage with traditional architecture, antique furnishings, and cultural artifacts, reflecting Jerusalem’s diverse history. Each of its 14 rooms is named after influential women from the city’s past, celebrating its multicultural legacy. Despite challenges like wars, political unrest, and declining tourism, owner Raed Saadeh remains committed to maintaining the hotel as a cultural landmark. For him, the hotel is not just a business but a testament to Jerusalem’s enduring spirit and history.
