Over the years, the boundaries of Jerusalem have evolved, reflecting the social, economic, and political changes within the city and the broader region. The question of where Jerusalem's borders truly lie remains unresolved, as there is no universally accepted definition of the city's limits. This ongoing ambiguity is frequently leveraged by the State of Israel, which maintains control over the entire area. While Israel officially defines Jerusalem's borders within a 126 km² area that includes occupied East Jerusalem, it consistently strives to extend its authority across the wider Jerusalem region.
