East Jerusalem

East Jerusalem

Israel's annexation of East Jerusalem in 1967, which is widely considered unlawful under international law, has led to systematic policies aimed at reducing the Palestinian population in the area. Palestinians living in East Jerusalem are granted "permanent resident" status, which limits their rights, and face numerous challenges such as land expropriation, building restrictions, and discriminatory municipal services. These measures, combined with the encouragement of Israeli settlements and the construction of the Separation Barrier, aim to reshape the demographic and political landscape, making it difficult for Palestinians to remain in the city.
