US declaration on Jerusalem undermines peace process
The U.S. administration’s unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital undermines international law and decades of global consensus rejecting the unlawful annexation of East Jerusalem. This move not only legitimizes occupation but also risks enabling further violations, including evictions, home demolitions, and residency revocations that forcibly displace Palestinians—practices prohibited under international humanitarian and human rights law. The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) warns that such actions threaten its humanitarian efforts and the rights of Palestinians, particularly in East Jerusalem. NRC urges the international community to uphold international law, reject unilateral measures, and work toward a just and sustainable resolution to the conflict that respects the rights and dignity of both Palestinians and Israelis.
