East Jerusalem Schools
The education system for Palestinians in East Jerusalem is fragmented and dysfunctional due to its complex history and the unresolved status of the city in international law. Various categories of schools serve Palestinian students, each with different funding sources and oversight. In recent years, Israeli policies have aimed to push schools to accept Israeli funding, thereby increasing state control over curricula. A new law passed in November 2024 allows the Israeli Minister of Education to revoke funding from schools associated with expressions of solidarity with terrorism.
