In Brief: Escalations in Jerusalem
Between 17-24 November 2021, Israeli forces escalated their actions against Palestinian residents of Jerusalem, including killings, arbitrary arrests, house demolitions, and settler violence. On 17 November, a settler shot and killed 16-year-old Omar Ibrahim Abu Asab, while on 19 November, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) shot and killed Fadi Abu Shkheidem. The IOF also conducted multiple arrests, raids, and violent confrontations, injuring numerous Palestinians. They further restricted movement by closing town entrances and stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, where settlers were protected by the IOF. Additionally, Palestinian homes were demolished, such as the forced demolition of Iyad Burqan's house on 16 November. These incidents highlight the growing tensions and Israeli practices in Jerusalem.
