Batan al-Hawa neighborhood, Silwan: The next target for “Judaization” of E. J’alem

The Batan al-Hawa neighborhood in Silwan, East Jerusalem, is the site of a significant ongoing expulsion effort targeting Palestinian families. Over 80 families, many who have lived there for decades, face eviction as part of a broader Israeli effort to alter the demographic balance of East Jerusalem. The settler organization Ateret Cohanim, supported by Israeli authorities, has filed eviction claims and taken control of multiple properties in the area. These actions are based on laws allowing Jewish claims to property lost in 1948, while Palestinians have no such legal recourse for properties they lost in West Jerusalem. The presence of settlers has led to daily harassment, legal pressure, and violent confrontations, often involving Israeli security forces. This situation is viewed as part of a larger strategy to reduce the Palestinian population in East Jerusalem and strengthen Israeli control over the area.
