The Separation Barrier

The Separation Barrier

In June 2002, Israel began constructing the Separation Barrier in the West Bank, claiming security concerns after Palestinian attacks. However, its route largely follows settlement boundaries, facilitating Israel's annexation of Palestinian land. The barrier, which stretches over 700 kilometers, separates Palestinian communities from their land, disrupts urban and rural blocs, and limits freedom of movement. Palestinians face restricted access to their farms and daily routines, with permits required to cross the barrier, often denied. Israel’s Supreme Court upheld the barrier’s construction, while the International Court of Justice deemed it unlawful, citing human rights violations.
