Israeli authorities demolish East Jerusalem home, entire community at risk

On August 6, 2024, Israeli authorities demolished a home in Al-Bustan, Silwan, displacing seven Palestinians, including two children. This action violates international law prohibiting forcible transfer and property destruction. The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) urges an end to such practices, highlighting a significant rise in demolitions, with 229 recorded in 2023—the highest since 2009. The International Court of Justice has declared Israel’s presence in occupied territories unlawful, demanding the cessation of settlement activities and recognition of Palestinian rights.
