The destruction and conversion of synagogues into churches can be understood as a medieval manifestation of this phenomenon. Between the 11th and 16th centuries\, approximately half of all known synagogues on the Iberian Peninsula were confiscated and converted into churches or Christian places of worship. The conversion of synagogues reflects conflict\, interaction\, and exchange between Jews and Christians\, as well as between Judaism and Christianity.
