SUMMARY:The First Swedes in Jerusalem
DESCRIPTION:Al Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art invites you to visit “The First Swedes in Jerusalem”\, an exhibition of rare photographs and archival texts tracing the history of the Swedish Colony\, founded in Jerusalem in the late 19th century. \nThrough 10 thematic posters\, the exhibition tells the story of the Swedes from Nås\, Dalarna\, who joined the American Colony\, bringing new skills in agriculture\, craftsmanship\, and trade. It also highlights the 1900 visit of Nobel Prize–winning author Selma Lagerlöf\, whose novel Jerusalem was inspired by their lives and helped pave the way for the Swedish Consulate\, established in 1903. \nMarking 122 and a half years of Swedish presence in Jerusalem\, the exhibition celebrates the enduring historical ties between Sweden and the city. \nLocation: Al Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art\, New Gate\, Old City\, Jerusalem\nDates: 02.08.2025 until 15.09.2025\nOpening Hours: 10:00 – 16:00\, except Thursdays until 20:00\nAdmission: Free
